How to Maintain Your UTV
Your utility terrain vehicle (UTV) is capable of assisting you with your work and providing you with a vehicle for fun off-road adventures with family and friends. In order to prevent your UTV from breaking down on your randomly, which can be extremely dangerous, you need to keep it maintained. Here are a few tasks we suggest you complete before your next ride.
Look Over Your Owner’s Manual
Your UTV owner’s manual will have plenty of tips for you to keep your UTV in good working order. Always review it before you begin your maintenance so that you can make the right adjustments and use the proper products for your make and model of vehicle.
Check Tires
Your UTV’s tires take a real beating on rough terrain. Keep an eye on their condition and replace any balding tires or tires that won’t hold air. Use a tire pressure gauge to check psi levels and an air compressor to fill your tires back up. Also, use the proper tires for the type of riding you wish to do: mud tires are for riding through wet muddy areas and sand tires are made for beach riding.
Change or Replenish Fluids
The oil, fuel, and coolant in your UTV need to be clean and topped off. Check the oil by removing the dipstick from the reservoir, wiping it with a soft cloth, reinserting it, and removing it again. Sludgy oil needs changing; runny oil can be topped off.
Drain old gasoline and fill up your tank with clean fuel. Check your radiator’s coolant level and top this off as well. Be mindful of any pooling fluids under the vehicle when it’s parked; this may be a sign of a leak in one of your reservoirs.
