Preparing Your Farm Equipment for Spring
With warmer weather comes planting season, and that means it’s time to get out your ag equipment get ready to use it. However, you can’t expect a tractor or other piece of farm machinery to work perfectly straight from the barn or garage; you have to do some preparatory work to make sure it’s ready to go. Here’s how to prepare your farm equipment for springtime cultivation and planting.
Check Your Owner’s Manual
First, it’s essential to review your owner’s manual for each piece of equipment you own. The manufacturer of your ag equipment will have given you recommendations on how to take care of your machine, along with products to use with it.
Clean Machines & Inspect Thoroughly
Next, you need to wash your equipment, wipe down the operating cab, and make sure that there isn’t any debris that will interfere with your work or cause damage to your machine. While you’re cleaning and after you’re through, perform a thorough inspection of the machine and its attachments. Make note of any repairs that must be made and don’t use the equipment until you’ve made them. Change Fluids
The various fluids in your farm equipment engines will need to be replenished or replaced entirely after months in storage. Top off or change your coolant, oil, and fuel, and make sure that all the filters are clean and ready to go.
